Dérive is a French word for a type of "random walk" through a (typically urban) landscape that allows people to disassociate from everyday relations to their social environment and bring attention to a more expanded view of the present moment. The concept was popularized by Guy Debord and others in the Letterist and Situationist movements. These improvisations similarly mine the conundrum of expanded awareness through disassociation from the quotidian.
